TANG SOO DO IN DENBY DALE
Tang Soo Do is a traditional Korean Martial Art of Self Defence. Our Tang Soo Do classes run on Tuesdays from 6:00pm to 7:30pm at the Upper Denby Church Hall and every Friday, from 6:30pm to 8:00pm at the St Paul’s Church Hall in Shepley. The class costs £5 per person on Tuesdays or £6 per person on Fridays (or £10 per person if you attend both classes), although the first class is free. If you are interested and would like to come watch the class to see what it entails or would like to give the class a try, please feel free to come down. Alternatively you will find our contact details on the contact section of the website.
The class was opened in October 2021 by Master L Daly, a 2 X Tang Soo Do World Champion who trained at the Tang Soo Do Pudsey Class under the guidance of Master J Tang for over 25 years.
The class has grown from a small class of 3 junior members and black belts, to a class full of promising students who have successfully upgraded on a number of occasions and look to compete at upcoming competitions. As a result of our continued growth a secondary Tuesday class has been opened which is proving to be just as successful.

ABOUT TANG SOO DO
The martial art of Tang Soo Do is relatively modern. However, its basis, the Korean art of Soo Bahk Do, dates back many centuries.
Tang Soo Do is a composite style, being 60% Soo Bahk Do, 30% northern Chinese and 10% southern Chinese. Our kicking techniques, for which Tang Soo Do is unsurpassed, are based on Soo Bahk. Soo Bahk was first developed during the Shilla Dynasty (57BC-935 AD), but enjoyed its flowering during the Koryo Dynasty (918-1392 AD).
Tang Soo Do is both a hard and soft style, deriving its hardness in part from Soo Bahk and its soft flowing movements from the northern Chinese systems.
Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan (a brotherhood and school of stopping inner and outer conflict and developing virtue according to the way of the worthy hand) is a classical martial art, and its purpose is to develop every aspect of the self, in order to create a mature personality who totally integrates intellect, body, emotions, and spirit. This total integration helps to create a person who is free from inner conflict and who can deal with the outside world in a mature, intelligent, forthright, and virtuous manner.

IN MEMORY OF GRANDMASTER KANG UK LEE
It was with great sadness that we were informed of the passing of our beloved Grand Master not long after the opening of our class. A true inspirational leader and legend. A Grand Master who enriched the lives of so many Masters and students in the art of Tang Soo Do. A gift that we will treasure always.
Tang Soo Do has been his great passion and that is clear to see in the growth of the Organisation over the years, where he has now left a legacy to be proud of.
Our Tang Soo Do family will feel this loss not only in the UK, but all around the world. May we honour his memories by carrying on his passion for Tang Soo Do.

FAQ
DO I NEED TO HAVE PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE IN SELF DEFENSE?
Not at all. We welcome people of all abilities, from people wanting their first experience of Martial Arts to those with years of Martial Arts experience but want to try something new. We also welcome back people who used to train in Tang Soo Do and want to return.
WHAT DO I WEAR?
In your first sessions, a T-shirt and loose tracksuit bottoms or shorts are perfect. If you feel that Tang Soo Do is a Martial Art you would like to continue to train in, official Tang Soo Do Do Balks are purchased through the federation.
WHAT AGES DO YOU TEACH?
The class caters for people from the age of 6 and up. One comment we regularly get is "I'm too old for martial arts". You are never too old to train in martial arts. I pride myself on providing a class where you train to your level. We have a wide range of ages at our class and I would never push people beyond their capabilities.
