Club/ Team/ Friends

My daughter, Olivia joined Tang in September 2022 and we’ve never looked back, it’s done wonders for her confidence (it’s grown like I could never have imagined), her self esteem, her health and it helps me rest easy knowing she can defend herself if she ever needs it.

I always chosen to stay and watch (Olivia liked me to watch) and gradually I got to know Liam and everyone who attends class, including the wonderful masters and seniors. 

In December 2022, I attended the presentation evening with my daughter, son and husband, my husband had never met them before and afterwards he told me he was expecting them to be like Cobra Kai, instead he met amazing group of people! 

Since then Tang Soo Do Denby Dale has grown, and both my husband and my son have since joined. All three of them attend twice a week and on occasion they will visit other classes-it’s their happy place and a healthy place to work out their stresses of the week. Olivia has formed some strong friendships with the other girls, friendships which I hope will last a lifetime. 

As a teacher, I gradually offered to help in certain areas which I’m trained in and soon became part of the team. I am proud to be part of the team helping with different elements whether it be paperwork, planning and organising, first aid, safeguarding of taking photos. I’m usually there regardless and if it allows Liam to spend more time working his magic building confidence whilst teaching everyone with so much enthusiasm, then I’m more than happy to do it. 

What started as helping, has resulted in me gaining so much in the form of getting know all the wonderful people who train, their parents, and people from other Tang Soo Do clubs, I get to watch my children thrive and accomplish things I never expected and gradually we have all become a family. A family who laughs together, comforts, supports, praises and who listens when someone needs an ear (or a hug). A Tang family, something unexpected but so meaningful as a result from attending a martial arts class-we truly are a great team
